Mobile app development
Mobile app development services
Azimuthforge is an India-based AI and software engineering company that designs, builds and maintains Android and iOS apps for startups and enterprises. We build with React Native and Expo or native code, connect apps to your backend, and ship updates over the air. We serve clients in India, the UK, the US, Australia and the UAE.
What is mobile app development?
Mobile app development is the design, engineering and release of software that runs on phones and tablets, on Android, iOS or both. Azimuthforge is an India-based AI and software engineering company that builds mobile apps for startups and enterprises in India, the UK, the US, Australia and the UAE.
It covers more than screens. A working app needs a backend and APIs, user accounts, push notifications, payments where relevant, store submission, analytics and a plan for updates. We build the whole chain, so you deal with one team from first sketch to the app in the stores.
Clients in the UK, the US, Australia and the UAE are served from India with a daily overlap window in their own time zone, used for reviews, questions and build demonstrations.
What mobile apps does Azimuthforge build?
Azimuthforge builds customer apps, staff and field-operations apps, internal enterprise apps, marketplace and booking apps, and apps with AI features such as document scanning or assistants. Each app is built for Android, iOS or both, and connects to your existing systems through secure APIs.
- Customer-facing apps for ordering, booking, loyalty, accounts and payments.
- Staff and field apps for task handling, approvals, stock, and orders on the floor or on the road.
- Internal enterprise apps that put an existing business system into employees' hands on their own devices.
- Apps with AI features, such as turning a photo of a document into structured data. Our InvoiceAI platform (invoiceai.tech) shows the document-intelligence approach we can bring into an app as scan-and-extract features. See custom AI development.
- Companion apps for a web product, kept in step with it. See SaaS product development.
We start from the job the app must do for its users, then choose screens and features to match. That keeps the first release focused and avoids paying for features nobody opens.
How do we build mobile apps that hold up in production?
Azimuthforge builds production mobile apps by agreeing a written scope first, shipping working builds to testers early, testing on real devices, handling poor connectivity deliberately, and releasing fixes over the air where the platform allows. The goal is an app that keeps working after launch, not only on demo day.
- Real devices, not only simulators. Builds are tested on physical Android and iOS devices across screen sizes.
- Offline behaviour designed in. Where users work on weak networks, the app stores work locally and syncs when the connection returns.
- Over-the-air updates. With React Native and Expo, fixes to the app's JavaScript can reach users without a full store review, within the platform's rules.
- Observability. Crash reporting and logs are set up before launch so problems are seen early.
- A maintainable codebase. Typed code, clear structure and handover documentation, so another engineer can pick it up.
Native vs cross-platform: which should you choose?
For most business apps, cross-platform development with React Native is the sensible default because one codebase serves Android and iOS. Native development suits apps that depend heavily on device hardware or platform-specific features. Azimuthforge recommends one after reviewing your requirements, and explains the trade-off in writing.
| Cross-platform (React Native / Expo) | Native (Kotlin and Swift) | |
|---|---|---|
| Codebase | One shared codebase | Separate Android and iOS codebases |
| Delivery effort | Lower, since most code is shared | Higher, since each platform is built separately |
| Over-the-air updates | Supported for JavaScript changes | Store release for every change |
| Device hardware access | Good, with native modules where needed | Full and immediate |
| Best for | Business, commerce, booking, operations apps | Graphics-heavy, hardware-intensive or platform-specific apps |
Many projects use React Native for the app and write a small native module only where a feature needs it.
Proof from our own work
Azimuthforge has shipped mobile software for its own products and operates it in production. Restrofi, our restaurant and hotel operations platform, includes an Android staff app and a customer app built with React Native and Expo, updated over the air, alongside a Windows point-of-sale app that keeps billing working offline.
- Restrofi (restrofi.com) combines QR ordering, a kitchen display, billing and payments with WhatsApp order updates. The staff app and customer app are connected to the same platform.
- Offline-capable operations. The Restrofi Windows point-of-sale app keeps billing working when the connection drops, the same discipline we apply to client apps that must work on weak networks.
Because we operate these products ourselves, we have seen what happens after release: updates, device differences, support requests and changing requirements. That experience shapes how we build client apps.
How does a mobile app project work?
An Azimuthforge mobile app project runs in six stages: discovery and written scope, design of the key flows, build in short cycles with working builds, testing on real devices, store submission and launch, and ongoing maintenance. You review a working build at the end of each cycle and approve changes in writing.
- Discovery. We agree users, core flows, integrations and what is out of scope.
- Design. Wireframes and screen designs for the main flows, reviewed with you before build.
- Build in cycles. Working builds are shared for review through test channels.
- Testing. Functional, device and usability testing, with defects tracked to closure.
- Launch. We prepare store listings, privacy declarations and submission, and support the release.
- Maintenance. Operating-system updates, fixes and improvements under a support agreement.
What drives the cost of a mobile app?
The cost of a mobile app depends mainly on how many screens and user roles it has, how many systems it must integrate with, whether it needs offline working, payments or AI features, and which platforms it targets. Azimuthforge prices each app from a written scope rather than an hourly estimate.
- Number of screens, user roles and distinct flows.
- Integrations with payments, messaging, maps, ERP, CRM or other systems.
- Offline working and data synchronisation.
- Platforms targeted, and whether native modules are needed.
- Backend work: the app's APIs, admin tools and notifications.
- Ongoing support, store accounts and release cadence.
Every engagement is priced from a written scope after discovery, so you approve a fixed price before the build starts.
Security, ownership and data protection
On Azimuthforge mobile projects, the client owns the source code and accounts, data is encrypted in transit, and access is controlled by role. We design handling of personal data in line with India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, and for UK and EU users with UK GDPR and GDPR in mind.
- You own the code, the store accounts and the backend. Developer accounts are registered in your organisation's name.
- Secure by default. Encrypted connections, secure token storage on the device and role-based access.
- Data minimisation. The app collects only the personal data the feature needs, with clear consent and privacy declarations for the stores.
- Design for GDPR and UK GDPR where users are in those regions. This is a design consideration, not a certification claim; Azimuthforge does not hold ISO or SOC 2 certification.
FAQ
Mobile app development: common questions.
How much does it cost to build a mobile app?
The cost depends on the number of screens and user roles, the integrations needed, whether the app must work offline, and whether you need Android, iOS or both. Azimuthforge prices each app from a written scope after discovery, so you approve a fixed price before the build starts.
Should I build native apps or use React Native?
For most business apps, React Native with Expo is the better value because one codebase serves both platforms and supports over-the-air updates. Native suits hardware-intensive or platform-specific apps. We give a written recommendation based on your requirements, including the trade-offs.
How long does it take to build a mobile app?
Timelines depend on scope, the number of integrations, design approvals and store review. We give a schedule in the written scope, tied to review points, and show working builds throughout so you can judge progress instead of waiting for a final delivery.
Will I own the source code and developer accounts?
Yes. The source code, developer accounts and backend are yours. We register store accounts in your organisation's name, deliver the repository with documentation, and can continue to support the app or hand it to your own team.
Can you work with our team in the UK, US, Australia or UAE?
Yes. Azimuthforge is based in India and works with clients in the UK, the US, Australia and the UAE, with a daily overlap window in your time zone for reviews and questions. Clients follow milestones and updates in our client portal.
Do you maintain the app after launch?
Yes. We offer a support agreement covering operating-system updates, bug fixes, dependency updates and improvements. With React Native and Expo, many fixes can be shipped over the air, within the store platforms' rules. We check the app against each new Android and iOS release as it arrives.
