What is SaaS product development?

SaaS product development is the work of building software that you sell to many customers on a subscription: multi-tenancy, onboarding, plans and billing. Azimuthforge is an India-based AI and software engineering company that builds SaaS products for founders and enterprises in India, the UK, the US, Australia and the UAE.

A SaaS product is more than features. It needs customer accounts, isolation between customers, subscription billing, an admin console, analytics and a way to ship updates safely. We design these foundations first, so the product can grow without a rebuild.

For founders and teams in the UK, the US, Australia and the UAE, we hold a daily overlap window in their time zone, so product decisions and demonstrations do not wait a day.

Founders often ask where to begin. We usually start by agreeing the smallest release that a real customer would pay for, then plan the architecture to support what comes next.

What SaaS products does Azimuthforge build?

Azimuthforge builds vertical SaaS for specific industries, B2B workflow and operations platforms, internal tools being turned into products, marketplaces, and platforms with AI at their core. Each includes tenant management, roles, billing and an admin console, with web and mobile front ends where needed.

  • Vertical SaaS for a single industry, such as hospitality, compliance or finance operations.
  • B2B workflow platforms that replace spreadsheets and email chains with a controlled process.
  • Internal tools productised for other companies to use.
  • AI-native products where document reading, retrieval or automation is the core feature. See RAG and LLM development and custom AI development.
  • Companion mobile apps for the same platform. See mobile app development.

How do we build SaaS products that hold up in production?

Azimuthforge builds SaaS products on a multi-tenant architecture with strict data isolation, role-based access, audited changes, background job processing, automated deployments and monitoring. We build the first release small, run it with real users, and extend it from evidence rather than assumptions.

  • Tenant isolation. Every query is scoped to the customer, tested to prevent cross-customer access.
  • Roles and permissions that can be configured per customer.
  • Subscription billing with plans, add-ons, renewals, and handling of failed payments and webhooks.
  • Background jobs and queues for emails, reports, imports and integrations, so the interface stays quick.
  • Audit logs for sensitive actions.
  • Automated deployment and monitoring, so releases are repeatable and problems are visible.
  • Operational experience. We operate SaaS platforms ourselves, so we design for support, upgrades and incident handling.

Build a custom SaaS product or buy off-the-shelf software?

Off-the-shelf software is the right choice when an existing product already fits your process. A custom SaaS product makes sense when the process is your competitive advantage, you intend to sell the software, or no product fits. Azimuthforge will say honestly when buying is the better route.

Off-the-shelf software Custom SaaS product
Time to start Fast Longer, since it is built
Fit to your process Adapt your process to the tool Built around your process
Ownership Licence only You own the code and roadmap
Selling it to others Not possible Designed for it
Integration Limited to what the vendor offers Built to your systems
Running cost Per-seat fees that grow with the team Hosting and maintenance you control

Proof from our own work

Azimuthforge builds and operates three SaaS platforms of its own. Restrofi runs restaurant and hotel operations and serves many restaurant and hotel businesses from one platform, LeadsBuck runs lead generation and outreach, and InvoiceAI reads and validates invoices. Each is a SaaS product we run in production.

  • Restrofi (restrofi.com): QR ordering, kitchen display, billing, payments, WhatsApp order updates and one-time passwords, an AI menu import, Android and customer apps, and an offline-capable Windows point-of-sale app.
  • LeadsBuck: lead lists, campaigns and email sequences, social content scheduling, lead analysis and conversation history.
  • InvoiceAI (invoiceai.tech): reads and validates invoices and reconciles them with an audit trail.
  • EatSafe Legal, our client: we built AI-assisted review of aggregator contracts and the web platform for compliance software serving Indian restaurants.

How does a SaaS product project work?

An Azimuthforge SaaS project runs in six stages: discovery and written scope, architecture and data model, design, a first release built for real users, a launch with monitoring, and continuous improvement. The first release deliberately includes only what is needed to learn from customers.

  1. Discovery. Users, jobs to be done, the first release boundary and what waits.
  2. Architecture. Tenancy model, data model, roles, billing approach and integrations.
  3. Design. Key flows and the admin console, reviewed with you.
  4. First release. Built in short cycles, with working software to review each time.
  5. Launch. Production deployment, monitoring, backups and onboarding of early customers.
  6. Improve. Prioritised releases informed by usage and feedback.

Each cycle ends with working software you can open and test, and with a short written note of what changed, what was decided and what comes next.

What drives the cost of SaaS product development?

The cost of building a SaaS product depends mainly on the breadth of the first release, the complexity of the data and permissions model, the number of integrations, whether billing is simple or usage-based, and whether AI features or mobile apps are included. Azimuthforge prices each phase from a written scope.

  • Scope of the first release and number of user roles.
  • Multi-tenancy and permissions complexity.
  • Billing model: flat plans, per-seat, usage-based, add-ons.
  • Integrations with payments, messaging, accounting and customer systems.
  • AI features, which add evaluation and monitoring work.
  • Web and mobile surfaces, and the admin console.
  • Hosting, support and ongoing roadmap work after launch.

Every engagement is priced from a written scope after discovery, so you approve a fixed price before the build starts.

Security, ownership and data protection

On Azimuthforge SaaS projects, the client owns the code and infrastructure accounts, customer data is isolated by tenant, access is role-based and audited, and personal data is handled in line with India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023. For overseas customers we design with UK GDPR and GDPR in mind.

  • You own the source code and the cloud accounts, with documented deployment.
  • Isolation and least privilege. Tenant scoping, role-based access and secrets kept out of code.
  • Backups and recovery planned and tested as part of the build.
  • Data protection by design. Retention, export and deletion capabilities for customer data.
  • No certification claim. GDPR and UK GDPR are design considerations; Azimuthforge does not hold ISO or SOC 2 certification.

FAQ

SaaS product development: common questions.

How much does it cost to build a SaaS product?

The cost depends on the breadth of the first release, the permissions and data model, billing complexity, integrations and any AI or mobile features. Azimuthforge prices each phase from a written scope, so you approve a fixed price before the build starts.

How long does it take to build a SaaS product?

It depends on scope. We recommend a deliberately small first release so real users can validate it, then extend it in prioritised cycles. The written scope sets out the schedule and the review points, so you can see working software throughout.

Do I own the code and the intellectual property?

Yes. You own the source code, the infrastructure accounts and the product roadmap. We deliver documentation and a repeatable deployment process, and can keep supporting the product or hand it to your team. Deployment scripts, billing configuration and the data model documentation are part of the handover.

Which technologies do you use for SaaS?

We build web products on Next.js and mobile companion apps on React Native, using managed cloud databases. The stack is chosen from your requirements, your team's skills and hosting preferences, and where your engineers already work in another stack we will say plainly whether to follow it. You receive the code and deployment documentation either way.

Can you add AI features to a SaaS product?

Yes. We build AI features such as document reading, retrieval-based assistants and workflow automation, tested against an evaluation set before release. See our custom AI development and RAG services for how we approach this. Where an AI feature acts on customer data, it respects the same tenant isolation as the rest of the product.

Do you maintain the product after launch?

Yes. We offer support agreements covering monitoring, security updates, bug fixes and roadmap development. We also operate our own SaaS platforms, so we plan for production support from the start. Billing webhooks, backups and deployment pipelines are monitored as part of that support.
